Senza Rossetto
Spanning from knitwear to swimwear, Samanta Virginio’s SS25 collection features 15 looks that explore the significance of women's voting rights in the past, present, and future. Inspired by the Italian film C'è Ancora Domani, the campaign—photographed by Carly Scott and styled by Rubina Marchiori—reenacts the 1946 moment when women were first allowed to vote in Italy. At that time, women were advised to remove their lipstick before sealing their ballots to prevent their votes from being nullified.
Samanta Virginio’s signature pieces are also revisited in this collection, from open-weave stretchy knits to peony-inspired swimsuits. The collection expands the seasonless Narcisa Bag line with the introduction of two new designs: the hobo-style Dahlia Petal Bag and the crossbody Anthea Baguette. Additionally, a jewellery collaboration with New York-based brand Gauchette enhances the collection, embracing the natural world through synergetic pieces. A special collaborative garment, A New Bloom, was created with Italian-Iranian artist Elham M. Aghili in her Parma-based studio. Using her signature technique and Vilmar’s iconic dead-stock yarns, this sculptural piece features in the campaign on model Achol, who is seen blooming from within a peony, entangled in its pistils.
Sustainability is a strong focus for this collection. Samanta Virginio sourced dead-stock yarns and fabrics through partnerships with Italian makers and implemented a zero-waste cutting technique. Only natural, certified organic, and recycled materials were used, and the swimwear is crafted from a fast-drying, recycled Italian fabric, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainability throughout. The designer also works exclusively with Italian manufacturers who ensure transparency in sourcing, ethical production practices, and the well-being of their workers, visiting them each season to oversee the creation of the garments in real time.
The collection aims to infuse life, joy, and playfulness into a significant call to action. It encourages women everywhere to take charge of their future by heading to the polls. Whether in tights or without lipstick, there’s no excuse not to vote!
